This is a TacFire AR-15 Forward Assist Steel . If your AR rifle hasn’t been cleaned and has a significant amount of rounds have been cycled through it, then more than likely you will have a very carbon congested chamber. The forward assist forces the bolt to lock up against the barrel when there is an obstruction preventing it from doing so. Another use for a forward assist is for silent loading, the user can pull the charging handle and slowly let it ride back to position and press the forward assist to lock the bolt.
