When Colt’s 1836 patent expired in 1857 Remington introduced the 1858 a solid frame design elegant & reliable. It’s reliability & accuracy was infamous & became the chocie firearm when the government offered the “Yankee” officers to take over as an outfit at the end of the War of Succession.
